Miller Homes Set to Build Over 500 New Homes in the North East in 2022
Miller Homes will launch four new sites across the North East in 2022, building a total of 550 new homes, at locations including Ryton and Durham as well as commencing phase two of its Longridge Farm development in Bedlington.
As a result of this year’s projects, the region will see over 30 new on-site jobs created, as well as an additional five sales roles to support the forecasted demand for the homes. Promotions have also been announced for two of its senior team. Eddie Burton has been promoted to the new role of Head of Planning and Steve McCann has been promoted to Associate Technical Director.
Patrick Arkle, regional managing director at Miller Homes North East, said: “With ongoing demand for new build homes across the UK, we are delighted to announce plans to provide a significant amount of high quality new homes in the North East during 2022. Alongside this, the scale of planned work means that we can create a number of jobs in the local community and provide members of our team with opportunities for career development.”
Construction will begin at Willows Edge, Ryton, in spring 2022 and will compromise a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes suitable for a variety of house hunters such as first-time buyers, those looking to grow their families, and people looking to downsize. This will be followed closely by two sites in Durham where building work is also due to commence in the spring.
Sales for Miller Homes’ Willow’s Edge development will launch in early Spring, followed by the two sites in Durham in Summer and in Autumn. The national homebuilder will be part of a project to build 1500 new homes at Seaham Garden Village as well as finalise acquisition in Sniperley in County Durham. There are also plans to announce two other sites in the North East. These additional site acquisitions mean that the number of homes built will increase to 600 by 2023.
Aisling Ramshaw, sales director at Miller Homes North East, commented: “We are looking forward to launching our new developments this year and are confident we can cater for current demand for new homes. We have observed two clear trends in the last year influencing both where we build and the types of homes and communities we are designing.
“The first trend is people no longer need to work in big cities like London, with hybrid and homeworking they can be based – at least for some of the week – anywhere they wish. This has led to a big demand for our coastal and countryside developments of larger homes with gardens and a home office, workspace or even space for a yoga studio.
"The second trend is that of new communities centred around large new employers like Just Eat or Amazon – the big companies who will employ thousands of local people who want to live in an affordable, desirable home located near their place of employment.”
