Hamilton is a large town in South Lanarkshire situated on the south bank of the River Clyde, around a 20 minute drive from Glasgow. Bordered by Motherwell, Bellshill and Blantyre, the town dates back to the middle-ages and is home to one of Scotland’s oldest football clubs, Hamilton Academical.

With a population of over 50,000, Hamilton has all the amenities you could need including supermarkets, post offices, pharmacies, independent cafes, and pubs. The town has two large shopping centres, the Regent Centre and New Cross, as well as multiple leisure centres.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, the 500-acre Chatelherault Country Park offers spectacular views of the Campsie Hills and Ben Lomond, and has 10 miles of walking routes to explore. Calderglen Country park is also a great day out for children, featuring playgrounds, ornamental gardens, and a zoo.

Travel by car to Glasgow (via the M74) and Edinburgh (via the M8) is easy from Hamilton, and the town has three railway stations providing local and national services. Regular direct trains from Hamilton Central will get you to Glasgow in 15 minutes, and from nearby Motherwell, you can get to Edinburgh in less than an hour.

The town is also served by bus routes to Glasgow, East Kilbride, Blantyre, Motherwell, and other surrounding towns, and National Express run coach services to London and Birmingham from Hamilton Bus Station.

Families are well-served by a range of high-performing local schools. Both Glenlee Primary and Woodside Primary have received positive recent Education Scotland reviews. Hamilton Grammar School and Holy Cross High School (which is currently benefiting from an extensive modern expansion to its campus) provide great secondary options.
