Viral Home Tiktok Trends to Try
In the past year and a half, two things (among many) have exploded in popularity: TikTok, the video creation app formerly known as music.ly, and home renovation. With home meaning more than ever before, people have been using the app for ideas on how to improve their décor, or indeed looking for ideas on how to style new homes that they may be moving into.
So, it stands to reason that the two would make a natural pairing! Below, we’ve put together a list of 4 trends to try around the home that have gone viral on the app, but that we think are doable enough to try yourself.
Dust off your hammer and nails, get yourself down to the paint aisle and have a read of our favourite TikTok home trends to try below…
- Warm / deeper colour palettes
Dark walls have been fashionable for a number of years now, but they’re not going anywhere any time soon. On TikTok, you can find any number of viral videos, such as this one, showing the ease with which you can transform your room with just a few tins of paint.
Staying away from bold, bright whites and leaning into warmer yellow, beige and taupe is also right on trend right now. This video shows just how much more warm and inviting a room can look when subtle changes are made, such as a textured off-white carpet. Pretty handy if you have children and pets, too!
Patterned or coloured wallpaper is also a relatively easy way of breaking up the stark brightness of a room and involving some colour to avoid the coldness or harshness of plain white.
Would you try this one in your home?
- Panelling
DIY accent walls involving wood panelling are huge on Tik Tok right now. This is a simple but effective way of smartening up a room and adding in some personality to bare walls. It’s definitely a cost effective project, too, as all you really need is some wood panels, paint, and nails – as well as a way to sand down the wood, of course!
- Macrame decorations
Lockdown saw a boom in people taking up knitting, cross stitching, painting, and all sorts of other hobbies – but the latest one taking TikTok by storm is macrame! The process involves using different tying techniques to produce knots that can then be made into decorations, jewellery and art, a practice that has been around since ancient times.
The method can also be used for making stylish plant hangers. There’s no doubt you bought some house plants over lockdown, so why not update them with a homemade hanger? Guaranteed to make your home look lovely and inviting!
- Year-round outdoor spaces
Finally, it’s time to move outdoors as the trend for year-round outdoor spaces has made TikTok users’ imaginations run wild! With fewer options to go out and about due to the various lockdowns of the last year and a half, people began to explore the idea of moving the indoors out. That means utilising fluffy cushions, crackling fire pits and canopies to keep you warm and cosy in your gardens, all year round.
This video demonstrates how to keep your outdoor furnishings protected from being weathered (which, if you live in the UK, is essential to know about!). Make sure you have protective sheets for your furniture in case of bad weather, and take in cushions and padding indoors when there’s rain.
