West Midlands raise over £8K for Birmingham Children's Charity

Miller Homes West Midlands staff members have raised over £8,000 by taking part in the city’s annual Dragon Boat Race competition in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Alongside 23 other teams, Miller Homes’ team of 17 were tasked with rowing three 200m races in a traditional Chinese Dragon Boat at the Mailbox in Birmingham, in a colourful spectacle where two boats go head-to-head showcasing their strength, endurance and teamwork.

Through a series of fundraisers, including coffee mornings and cake sales, and generous donations from contractors, suppliers and friends, the Miller Homes team smashed its initial target of £5,000, raising over £8,400.

Each pound raised was then matched by Miller Homes’ national team, with the funds going directly to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity; a world-renowned institution that provides treatment to some of the most seriously ill children and young people in the UK.

While raising money for the Hospital, Miller Homes’ team also showed their support for Birmingham Pride, which took place 24 – 25 September, by combining their hard hats and high-vis vests with rainbow wigs and tutus.

Miller Homes took home the prize for the largest amount fundraised by one single team. And, thanks to all participants, a total of £186,192.95 was raised – beating 2021’s total of £128,000.

As well as its regional office being situated in the West Midlands, Miller Homes’ Rectory Gardens neighbourhood, located in Sutton Coldfield, is just under seven-miles from the Hospital.

Donna Salmon, head of sales for Miller Homes West Midlands and the team’s ‘drummer’ for the day, said:

“We’re thrilled to have raised such a large sum of money for this brilliant local charity and, to top it off, our teams had a fantastic day out in the fresh air, getting active. As we build multiple new communities across the region, all within an hour of the Children’s Hospital, it’s really important to us at Miller Homes to support charities who will be providing much-needed care to local residents.

“We were pleased to see a lot of friendly rivalry and competitiveness between the teams, but even more so, we could see the community spirit on the day which just highlighted how highly the charity is regarded across the entire West Midlands. We hope to be back again next year to raise even more money!”
