Providing free meals for children throughout October half term

School Holiday Lunches

New homes builder, Miller Homes Southern, has partnered with popular Botley café Mrs Potts by the River to provide delicious free lunches for local children this half term.

From Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th October, families struggling with the cost of living crisis can visit Mrs Potts to collect a complimentary cold packed lunch for their children. Alternatively, young diners are invited to take advantage of the scenic setting and enjoy a hot meal on one of the picnic tables dotted along the riverside.

A total of 40 hot meals and 15 lunch boxes will be available each day, and will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis from 11am – 2pm. The daily-changing cooked dishes will include family-friendly staples including fish fingers, chips and peas and filled jacket potatoes, accompanied by fresh fruit, a cookie and a drink.

The campaign is a result of Miller Homes’ continued commitment to promoting and engaging with the local communities in which it builds. The new homes builder’s latest neighbourhood, Boorley Gardens, is a selection of one to four bedroom homes in Boorley Green, just over a mile’s walk from Mrs Potts by the River.

Emma Frost, co-owner of Mrs Potts by the River, said:

“We are a local, family-run business and welcome the opportunity to help other families that are finding it difficult to make ends meet, by providing this service together with Miller Homes. We encourage all those with children who may be finding it tough this October half term to come by and enjoy our beautiful setting by the river.”

Commenting on the campaign and the importance of supporting the Botley community, Katrina Crawford, sales and marketing director at Miller Homes Southern, said:

“We are always looking for ways to create meaningful and positive connections with existing communities when creating new neighbourhoods, and Boorley Gardens is no exception. We understand that many local families are feeling the pinch of rising energy bills and food prices, and that the school holidays can be a particularly difficult time financially.

“We’re delighted to be able to partner with a fantastic, family-run local business to offer some much-needed help to those in the Botley area who may be struggling with the cost of living crisis. We hope that the children will enjoy their delicious free lunches and the weather will be kind enough to allow for a day spent playing and eating by the river.”

Mrs Potts by the River is open from 9am till 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday, and is located at Botley Mill, Mill Hill, Botley, SO30 2GB.
