Supporting female footballers of the future

Local homebuilder, Miller Homes has recently sponsored a number of Greater Manchester-based female football teams, resulting in a ‘Miller Cup’ tournament for the girls being held which came to a head on Saturday 13th August.

Wythenshawe Amateurs took home the winning prize after beating Sale United 2-0. Sale Utd. Denton Youth Girls finished 3rd, Pennine Girls 4th and Cheadle & Gatley Valkyries came 5th. Representatives from Miller Homes attended the game in Sale and said they were “impressed by the level of talent and dedication shown by the girls to the sport.”

The £1000 donated by the homebuilder will go to the Crossford Bridge Management Association (CMBA). The CBMA is a local charity made up of three grassroot clubs including, Sale Harriers, Old Alts FC, and Sale United FC. The sporting club provides inclusive facilities for over 1000 adults and children per week and is currently raising funds for the much needed enhancement of its on-site facilities, starting with raising the final £35,000 needed to secure a 3G community football facility.

The donation comes as England’s Lionesses won the Euros at the end of July, ‘bringing it home’ for the first time for the first time since ’66.

Mark Noakes, Coach and Chair of Crossford Bridge Management Association commented: “We have had wonderful and successful tournament here today, the girls have loved every minute of it. A massive thank you to Miller homes for helping to sponsor this event and donating the winning medals, and of course the prestigious Miller Cup!”

He added: “We are all so grateful for Miller Homes’ £1000 donation, this money will go so far in providing sporting facilities for our girls.”

Leanne Feeley, Miller Homes’ Head of Sales for the North West, added: “It’s been fantastic to work with CMBA and to support the girls and their football clubs. A massive well done to all the teams that competed on Saturday, and a huge congratulations to the Wythenshawe girls in winning our Miller Cup. Our team loved being there! We hope to see all the ladies continue their football journey, and maybe see them become Lionesses one day!”

The GoFundMe page is still live and accepting donations for the CMBA. If you would like to contribute to the cause, you can visit the GoFundMe website.
