Miller Homes Announces Purchase Of Land For Manchester Development

Award-winning homebuilder Miller Homes is today announcing the successful purchase of land for its flagship development, Varsity Quarter, transforming The Manchester College’s Northenden campus into sustainable homes.

 Work on part of the site will begin early in the new year with the sales centre expected to open in May 2022 and first legal completions following in August 2022.

The Manchester College is building a brand-new campus in Manchester city centre and is also investing in its other sites in Openshaw, Harpurhey and more locally at Wythenshawe. The Manchester College will continue to provide education and training facilities at the Northenden Campus until September 2022 when its new facilities are ready.

Of the 224 high-quality new homes, 20% of these will be delivered as much-needed, private, and policy-compliant affordable homes, to be operated by an external housing provider.

Alongside this, the homebuilder will be working with the community under a section 106 agreement to improve sports facilities within Wythenshawe park for use by the whole community. It will also provide funding for improved sustainable transport links and a new bus shelter. The proposals represent a multi-million-pound investment into the local economy, supporting over 90 jobs in the process.

The Manchester College has communicated its plans to colleagues, existing students, as well as to new applicants and feeder schools and outlined to them the opportunities and advantages of study at its other sites, as well as the support available. Once this relocation is complete, it is Miller Homes’ ambition to build sustainable homes on this site which will be a natural extension to the community, benefitting existing and new neighbours in the community alike.
