West Yorkshire School Children Champion Healthy Lifestyle

walk to school week Yorkshire

Children at a primary school in West Yorkshire have championed a more healthy lifestyle after they were supported during the recent Walk to School Week by leading housebuilder Miller Homes.

In addition to the children being provided packs and incentives during the week, the housebuilder challenged them to design posters promoting the benefits of walking to school which would educate and inspire other children to do the same across the city. The winning entries would then by displayed in the sales centre at its City Fields development which is just minutes’ walk from Stanley Grove Primary School.

“Our thanks go to the children for designing such an amazing collection of posters which were fantastic to look at but which made judging them so hard,” said Natalie Moore sales manager Miller Homes Yorkshire. “Because we were so impressed we decided to choose three winners from different age groups to recognize the calibre of the poster designs we had.”

Winners, Amy Burgess from Reception, Grace Harrison from Year 3 and Hafsah Fayaz from Year 5, each received a book token from the housebuilder which was presented to the surprised children at a school assembly.

“Miller Homes continues to support learning in our school and this subject was particularly relevant as the summer term got underway,” commented Mrs Frost, head teacher at Stanley Grove Primary School. “We shall look forward to visiting the sales centre and seeing the posters taking pride of place which will serve to remind visitors of the importance of walking, not just to school, but in everyday life for ongoing health and wellbeing even into adulthood.”

It is hoped that the posters, which highlight not only the health benefits but the pleasure of walking to school with parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and carers, will encourage other school children to adopt the practice.

Close to Stanley Grove Primary School is the housebuilder’s City Fields development which will see the construction of almost 200 homes as part of a wider regeneration scheme.  Properties available for sale include two, three, four and five bedroom homes currently priced from £239,995.
