Miller Homes to build Brailsford school
Pupils in Derbyshire will be taking lessons in a brand new multi-million pound primary school, thanks to Miller Homes Midlands.
The award-winning housebuilder is now starting construction of the new £2.2m primary school in Brailsford.
Complete with four classrooms and specialist teaching facilities, including an IT suite, large multi-use hall and library, the new educational centre will replace the present Brailsford Church of England Primary School, and will receive its first intake of pupils in September 2016.
Miller Homes Midlands is working on a new development called Dales View in the village, and the building of the school is a way of giving something back to the local community.
To mark the start of the project, pupils from the school have been helping Miller Homes dig the first foundations at the site.
Alastair Parsons, sales director for Miller Homes Midlands said:
"It's always a wonderful feeling when we are able to contribute to the local community. Brailsford's new school will be purpose-built and feature the latest technology, making it a welcoming, comfortable learning environment for pupils and teachers alike. We are delighted to be involved in the project and hope it aids many future generations.
"We really enjoyed our morning with the school children as they helped dig the first holes at the site. The children were really excited to be part of the process and I'm sure we now have some budding builders in the class!"
David Wood, head teacher at Brailsford Church of England Primary School adds:
"We are extremely excited about having this opportunity to move to a brand new building with state of the art facilities in a beautiful setting. It will be a fantastic learning environment, both within the classrooms as well as outside in the school grounds, allowing us to further enhance our curriculum.
"On the back of our recent 'Good' Ofsted report and another year of fantastic achievement by our Year 6 children in their Sats tests, we feel that the new building will allow us as a school to go from strength to strength. It will also enable the school to expand and offer more places, and space to run before and after school care.
"External play and teaching areas, including a games court and sports field will also feature at the school, which is to be built at the site on Luke Lane."
