School Children Don Hard Hats and High-vis Vests with Miller Homes

Children from Abercrombie Primary School in Chesterfield have been learning the ins and outs of the building trade with help from award-winning house builder Miller Homes Midlands.

The Reception class from the school enjoyed a visit to popular development The Portlands and were guided around by Miller Homes production director Malcolm Ceney.

Teacher Nicki Smith explains how the visit was of great use to the children:

“We’ve enjoyed a strong working relationship with Miller after their visit to the school last year, so it’s nice for the children to now get out of the classroom and see the work they do first hand.

“The children were really excited for the visit and learnt a whole deal about house building and the importance of remaining safe on site.

“To see the work in progress was really useful for them and they all came back to school full of energy and enthusiasm. I’m sure we now have some budding builders in the class!”

Malcolm Ceney added:

“The children showed a real appetite for the building trade and certainly kept us on our toes with the questions they asked.

“It’s important for us to involve the local community with the work we do and support the great work carried out by those at Abercrombie Primary School. We all had a great afternoon and we look forward to showing more school children around in the near future.”
