Safe Play at Hamilton View

Moving to a home with a its own garden became top of the check list for house hunters Lynsay and Paul Gourlay, as their 11 month old son, Nathan, was taking those first tentative toddler steps onto his feet and clearly would soon be looking for space to explore the world standing up.

Living in a cottage flat in Hamilton was not ideal and the couple were keen to find a new home in the area that would meet the needs of young family life, while allowing them to remain close to friends and family in the town.  After looking around at the available new-build options, they found their new dream home at Miller Homes' Hamilton View development, in Westcraigs, High Blantyre and moved into their three bedroom terraced Munro home in June.

Lynsay said: “We wanted more space and ease of access for Nathan to play safely outdoors in a secure garden, and by chance we saw an advert for new showhomes open at Hamilton View in the Sunday paper, which made us come and visit.  As soon as we crossed the threshold of the Munro design, we fell in love with it.  It’s exactly the size of house we wanted and was definitely value-for-money, with a secure, fenced-in garden at the back, where Nathan is already using the fence to steady himself on his feet!”

A welcoming hallway creates a homely entrance and leads into the front-facing lounge on the left and from here another door leads through to the rear hallway, which has access to a downstairs cloakroom and into the well equipped dining kitchen.  This is a comfortable open plan area, an ideal space for the family to enjoy the garden, with access from French doors.

As their home was already complete when they bought it, Lynsay didn’t get to choose her own kitchen, but is clearly delighted with the one she has, commenting: “The dining kitchen is an important living area for us, as Nathan is now sitting at the dinner table in his high chair and we dine together as a family.  With its cream based units, stone worktops and walnut wall units, the kitchen is very stylish, and though it’s not what I might have chosen, I love it!”

Upstairs, the master bedroom benefits from an ensuite shower room and Nathan has his own bedroom, while bedroom three currently houses Paul’s collection of American football memorabilia – all on display. Lynsay has made it clear, however, that if there is any extension to the family, the whole lot will have to go into storage!

As a joiner, 33-year-old Paul was impressed with the finish of the home and the couple are giving the new build six months to settle before tackling any new décor.  Lynsay said: “The neutral canvas is lovely for now and we’ve made it homely with our own pictures and furnishings.”

Lynsay, 28, is a primary school teacher in East Kilbride and finds driving to work now takes half the time than when they lived in the centre of Hamilton.  The development provides stunning views from its elevated location and comprehensive local amenities include high street shopping, excellent schools and leisure facilities, while the nearby links to the M73/M74 and M8 motorway network make it convenient for travel across the central belt.

In terms of customer care, the couple have been delighted in the service they have received from Miller Homes, with Lynsay saying: “The site agent is worth his weight in gold.  Nothing is a trouble for him and he has come himself if there’s been any niggles or issues.  We still feel valued as a customer.  We’re not just a number.”

The Munro is available in two styles – as a mid-terrace and semi-detached, making it a flexible proposition for different price points in the market.  A further release of the Munro house style is due soon, with prices from £149,995.  Currently available for sale is a choice of three and four bedroom homes, and incentives available include:  Mi New Home, Home Exchange or 5% deposit match.
