Miller Homes Yorkshire Scoops Top National Award

What House Awards 280 x 100

Urban regeneration is at the heart of our communities and one leading house builder has received a national award for its vision in transforming a former Yorkshire brownfield site into a great place to live.

The ‘What House’ award for Best Brownfield Development is presented to the house builder who demonstrates a commitment to inner city and urban renewal and provides an outstanding example as an urban or rural regenerator.

Miller Homes’ h2010 development, in Leeds, scooped the gold award for this category at the recent awards gala hosted by actor James Nesbitt and held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Located on the banks of the River Aire and just a five minute walk from Clarence Dock, Miller Homes’ h2010 development will offer 281 contemporary apartments and family homes when completed.

“Our vision for h2010 was to create a brand new community that was a great place to live whilst driving forward our corporate and social responsibilities as a house builder,” said Steve McElroy sales director Miller Homes Yorkshire. “To this end, we developed homes with energy and water saving efficiencies and declared the area a ‘Home Zone’ where the pedestrian is more important than the car in traffic hierarchy.”

In addition to providing high quality, affordable properties in a ‘Home Zone’, the plan for the development included a complete transformation of the area. This has comprised re-opening a formerly disused canal tow-path, allowing residents and the general public easy walking access to the city centre along the picturesque River Aire, and boasts a long term aim of providing improved water recreation opportunities.

The judges chose h2010 because of its high quality architecture and regenerated environment.  The layout of the development was highlighted as being particularly distinctive with ‘Home Zone and innovative street layouts plus green wedges from the River Aire frontage that penetrate the site’.  There was particular reference made to the successful development of the Pennine trail and the impressive contemporary design of the apartment blocks that ‘create a singular sense of place for this new development’.

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this recognition for our commitment to urban regeneration and are proud to lead the way for other house builders,” said Steve. “The whole team deserves recognition for what they have achieved and I offer them my warmest congratulations.”

Since its launch in October 2010, the development provides residents with the perfect juxtaposition between peaceful riverside living and the attractions of the vibrant city of Leeds. Clarence Dock, with its shopping and social attractions, is just a five minute walk away with the rest of Leeds just five minutes further.  Furthermore, h2010 remains committed to helping house buyers from all walks of life and continues to offer a number of purchase incentives including Home Exchange, MiWay and the Government led initiative FirstBuy.

Prices range from £103,500 for a two bedroom ‘Bluestone’ apartment to £182,000 for a four bedroom ‘Brook’ home. Detailed descriptions of all available properties are available at www.millerhomes.co.uk.

h2010 is located on Yarn Street, Hunslet, Leeds, LS10 1NY. The sales centre is open each day from 10.30am – 5.30pm and the team can be contacted on 0800 840 8506.
