Less than two miles’ drive from the A1(M) and around half an hour’s drive from Leeds, Harrogate or York, Shires Grove enhances its extremely convenient location with a beautiful semi-rural setting. Bus service 770, to Leeds and Harrogate via Wetherby, runs every half hour until around 6pm, and once an hour in the evenings. There are also less frequent services to Tadcaster, Otley, Wakefield and other local towns.

Recycling facilities for glass, paper and household packaging can be found at Thorpe Arch Estate, north of the River Wharfe.
Local amenities include a library with IT facilities, a Village Hall and a Community Centre, between them hosting a broad spectrum of activities from drama, dance and fitness classes to music, local history and archaeology. Youth organisations include Scout and Guide groups, and there are tennis, table tennis, bowling and angling clubs. Annual events include an Arts and Crafts Festival, a Beer Festival and a Gala Day. Bramham Park, three and a half miles from the village, is the location of the Leeds Festival, a major national rock music event.
Outdoor leisure opportunities range from woodland walks along the River Wharfe and exploring the local countryside to long distance rambles along the Ebor Way and White Rose Way, both of which pass through the village. Amenities in the larger town of Wetherby, three miles away and accessible via the White Rose Way, include a cinema, a racecourse, a superbly scenic golf course situated alongside the river, and a leisure centre with a 25m swimming pool, a learner pool and a well-equipped gym.
