Living in Huddersfield
Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as be a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Huddersfield.
Leisure and Recreation
The nearby children’s recreation ground at Fern Lea provides a sports field, play equipment and woodlands, and the family-friendly Huddersfield Sports Centre in the town centre incorporates two swimming pools and comprehensive gym facilities. Huddersfield Golf Club is around three miles away, and the area has several traditional pubs. Around five miles north of the Peak District National Park and close to the Yorkshire Dales, Huddersfield is also an excellent base for outdoor activities from mountain biking and rock climbing to exploring beautiful countryside and villages.
Education and Health
Lindley Infant School and Lindley Junior School were assessed as ‘outstanding’ in their most recent OFSTED reports. The local secondary, Salendine Nook High School, is a successful technology specialist college with Academy status. All three schools are within a few minutes walk of Lindley Park. Nearby GP practices include the Lindley Village Surgery in Thomas Street and the Nook Surgery in Salendine Shopping Centre. Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, around a mile away, has full A&E services, and there is a dental practice just minutes away in East Street.
Local bus routes run alongside the development in Cowrakes Road and Weatherhill Road, and a free town centre bus provides transit between locations like the rail stations, the university and key shopping sites. Leeds is less than 40 minutes from Huddersfield by train, and there are also frequent services to Manchester and Liverpool. The M62 motorway is just a few minutes drive to the north of Lindley Park.
Arts and Entertainment
Huddersfield’s year round entertainment programme includes a Literature Festival, the Huddersfield Carnival, a Food and Drink festival and the largest international festival of new and experimental music in the UK. In the Town Hall, a spectacular 1,200-seat concert hall hosts events ranging from classical music and stand-up comedy to lectures and talks, and open-air concerts are held in the magnificent surroundings of Greenhead Park.
Salendine Nook Shopping Centre, half a mile from Lindley Park, includes a Sainsbury’s and a post office, and there is a wide range of local shops such as convenience stores, pharmacy, off-licence, gift shops and florists in Lidget Street, around ten minutes walk away. The centre of town offers enormous variety, from the fashion collections and department stores of Kingsgate Shopping Centre to traditional outdoor markets and the Victorian splendour of the Byram Arcade.

My experience with Miller Homes has been absolutely fantastic; I go home and I’m happy.
Their good reviews preceded them.
I felt more confident to buy a new home as it would be in a better condition. An old home, if renovated, could have surprises that I may not detect when buying it. I also read around as new homes can be tricky depending on the builder. When I searched on-line Miller Homes had very good reviews; although people had talked about some little issues they also said that those issues were part of the building process and that they were rectified quite easily. That gave me a good opinion of them and when I saw what they were building at the time I knew it was my best option.
Lindley Park was made for me and for wildlife.
As a single, professional woman I was looking for something safe which had the right number of rooms and space for visitors and this flat suited my needs. The properties here have nice windows and green around them with lawns, bushes of different species and other plants; this creates a nice view and makes it a pleasant experience to have a walk through the development too. I was very impressed when the sales lady explained that although the building site was occupying a field, Miller Homes would minimise the impact by providing little houses for wildlife, such as birds and bats. For me, it’s not usual to hear of a developer doing this and I think it’s a very good thing.
I’m originally from Italy and I’ve always loved the English countryside.
Lindley Park is a very nice, safe area to live in. We’re on the outskirts of town so the area maintains a village atmosphere, but at the same time it’s also well connected by bus to the town. For me it’s easy to go to work using the public transport. I enjoyed the green on the development and the far-reaching views; I really enjoy my walks in the sunshine in the surrounding countryside.
They are reliable and the customer care is really good.
Whenever I’ve raised an issue Miller Homes has been extremely quick in addressing it. When there was a temperature issue with the electric shower they came out and checked it several times and they were very thorough. It turns out it was standard. They were very patient with me and made sure to check and discuss things with me so I knew it was not defective; that’s the reason it was such a positive experience.
I would definitely recommend Miller Homes because...
...in the end the product was absolutely up to my standard as a new build house. These are nicely built and they are beautiful to live in and to look at.
“All the workmen on site, including the site manager have been very good; that makes a big difference. This house seems to have been prepared very well and it’s also good to have people there for you on site.
I’d definitely recommend Miller Homes...
...because I’ve had friends who moved into new properties from other developers and they seemed to have a lot of problems. You do get problems in new properties, but if you can get them resolved… that’s everything.”
