How to create an autumnal doorway
Autumn is here and with it brings crisp leaves, cosy interiors and all things pumpkin! If you’re spending your first autumn in your new home, make it a season to remember and create a gorgeous ‘doorscape’ for a truly autumnal welcome.

What you’ll need

Tension rod to suspend foliage

Selection of autumnal picks, garlands and foliage (both faux and real foraged foliage works for this)

Floristry wire or string

Assortment of pumpkins

Autumnal accessories of choice such as wreaths, doormats, novelty Jack-O-Lanterns and mini pumpkins
How to create your doorway

First, position your tension rod in your doorframe, making sure it’s secure.

Next, wind your autumn garland around the rod, securing with wire.

Now you’ve got the base of your display, you can begin filling in gaps with autumn picks and foliage for a fuller look. To do this, wind wire around the stems of your picks and foliage and then secure to your garland. Top tip: alternate colours and foliage style for added depth, and don’t be afraid to mix real foliage with faux for an interesting look.

Continue doing this until you’re happy with the overall look of your display, then add in your extra touches like pinecones and mini pumpkins, securing each accessory with wire to make sure it’s sturdy.

To finish off your autumn doorway, hang a seasonal wreath on your door – these aren’t just for Christmas after all – and have fun styling a stack of pumpkins for a display that’ll carry you right through to Halloween. We love mixing ceramic pumpkins with real varieties for a rustic effect, and to bulk out your display, add in some of your real foliage and faux picks.
Lanterns, autumn doormats and autumn plants can also make for brilliant additions to your doorway display and can be scaled up or scaled down depending on how much space you have.
