Warm Up Your Winter Blues

Warm Up Your Winter Blues

The festive season is over, and the decorations are packed away so how do you banish the winter blues in your home and spread a bit of cheer this new year?

We have put together some top tips to chase away those gloomy days and give you, and your home, a warm glow.

Cosy club

There’s nothing better than feeling cosy indoors when the weather outside is grey and cold. Just think about snuggling up in your living room with your family, feet up and watching your favourite film.

To turn this dream into a reality, invest in a few key cosy pieces like soft cushions and throws to give yourself that real warm feeling, or a thick, fluffy rug to sink your toes into.

Light a fragranced candle to fill your house with a relaxing aroma such as lavender, which is well known for its stress-relieving properties and can also help you get a restful night’s sleep.

Finally, change your light bulbs to the ones that give off a softer glow – perfect for creating a cosy atmosphere. With these few simple changes your home will seem like a haven from the outside world.

Be blue

Every year, Pantone selects a colour of the year taking inspiration from everything from fashion and interiors to culture and trends. This year the colour is Classic Blue chosen to instil a feeling of calm, peace and refuge - something we are all looking for in January!

Designers are already predicting that we will see this colour sweeping into our interiors this year so if you want to get ahead of the curve, think about using it on an accent wall or adding a pop of colour to your soft furnishings.

If you’re feeling brave, go for a sofa in the rich, blue colour or personalise your kitchen with new stand-out accessories. However you embrace this, it is one blue you won’t be chasing away this winter.

Out with the old

Finally, out with the old and in with the new, what better way to start 2020 than with some decluttering? By sorting through old clothes and paperwork, you can make room for all the lovely new things you’ve had for Christmas.

Even the children might get involved if they know they need to make space in their bedrooms for all their new toys.

Why not follow the advice of last year’s Netflix sensation Marie Kondo and work wonders on your wardrobe, keep your accessories neat and tidy and make use of clever storage? Check out an earlier blog we wrote for some more top tips to declutter.

So in 2020, embrace the blues, declutter your rooms and then sit back and put your feet up in a nice cosy, warm home.
