What To Look For In A New Home Location
Buying a new home is such an exciting experience, whether it's your first or your fifth.
It's no surprise that your home buying journey will come with making many important decisions, from selecting a style of home that's the right one for you, to picking the perfect location which is equally as significant.
When thinking about location, asking yourself some questions will really help you picture where you want to settle. Thinking of these questions and what you want from a location is the hard part, we we're highlighting what we recommend looking for in a new home location.
Transport links
It's all about connectivity, whether for the drive into work or to make sure the kids can easily catch a bus to school. On the other hand, you may want to be rurally based and hard to reach. A short spell using an online search engine can bring up what roads are nearby, which bus routes pass through and any surrounding trains or Metro stations. If you are moving with an another person or with a family, it's worth having a conversation to establish how far you're willing to commute each day.
Good schools
Commonly schools have catchment areas, which is something to bear in mind if you have your heart set on your children going to a certain school. Being within the catchment area of an Ofsted rated good or outstanding school is an attractive quality when it comes to selling a property too. If you are moving to a new area, you can check the local authority's website to find out which schools are nearby.
Local community
When you move house you're not just moving into an area, you're moving into a community, so think about what community means to you. If local groups, resident networks and classes are things you'd like to have the opportunity to be involved with, look for an area with churches, a library, community centre, sports clubs and a gym etc. This extends to opportunities for children too, whether a dance class, football club or Girlguiding group.
Nearby amenities
For some a small village shop is all that's needed, and for others a close by supermarket is a necessity, so decide what's best suited to your lifestyle. What other services do you use regularly? Perhaps a Post Office, dentist or doctors surgery? Restaurants, cafes and pubs can be essentials for some too.
Recreational activities
Whether you're someone that enjoys a get up and go lifestyle, prefers a more relaxed pace or have little ones to keep entertained, you should think about what destinations and attractions are around. From miles of coastline perfect for walking the dog, to cinema and soft play to head to as a family, how do you enjoy spending your downtime and does your location offer this?
