Maximising Your Living Space

Maximising Your Living Space
With the popularity of Tidying Up With Marie Kondo on Netflix, people have been re-evaluating the layout of their homes and applying the Japanese organising consultants methods. Much like Marie Kondo, we'd like to inspire you with our own top tips for maximising your living space, whether you need a room to look bigger or you're lacking storage opportunities in a smaller room - we've got you covered!

Mirror, mirror on the wall

When it comes to maximising space, using a mirror should absolutely be your first port of call. A bigger mirror will create a bigger illusion - it's all about angles too, so think about which part of the room you want to reflect. if you're looking to update a room where you'd usually entertain guests, a large mirror would be ideal as it would create the illusion of more people and in turn, boost the atmosphere. Working with a small dressing room? Using a mirror that runs the length of the wall is a great way to maximise your space. Better yet, if storage is an issue, opt for a floor to ceiling mirrored wardrobe - creating a continuity effect. For adding depth to a room, a round mirror is ideal for breaking up rectangular shapes as it creates a layered effect.

Multi-tasking furniture

Opting for multi-tasking furniture is the perfect solution when working with smaller spaces. Sofas with built-in compartments make for great storage space, whether it's for magazines, books, toys or spare throws. The same thinking goes for coffee tables, a trunk suited to your own style is ideal, with more opportunity for storing your personal items. A trunk could also be used in your guest bedroom, perfect for storing bedding and towels. Have a unit that stores all your favourite vinyl but need more seating in your living room? Find a unit that's sturdy enough to double as a bench and top it off with a cosy cushion and, in an instant, you've got more seats for your guests! Nesting tables are an amazing option for savvy decorators, when more tables are needed you can simply slide them out and stack them again when you're done. With a whole host of design types on the market, there's a nesting table for every interior theme.

Claiming back the floor space

Perhaps your desk is taking up too much floor space in your home study or you feel you don't have enough room for a work space? The solutions is a mounted wall desk - they take up less room and you can even have shelves installed above it for the ultimate work from home spot. When it comes to living room furniture, a media console is by far the main culprit for taking up unnecessary space. Mounting your TV on the wall is an ideal alternative - say goodbye to bulky furniture. In the kitchen, go smaller with the dining table too or opt for a table that extends for occasions when you're entertaining guests - the best of both worlds!
