Home Workouts Made Easy
Fitting exercise into a daily routine can be a struggle, especially when gyms can be daunting and expensive.
At Miller Homes, we’ve researched ways to help you get moving in and around the home instead – and best of all, they’re free.
Get your blood pumping
Cardio exercise gets your heart rate up and increases blood circulation. Whether you’re looking to improve your heart condition, lose weight, clear your mind or just improve your health - cardio exercise will help.
The NHS has a 10-minute home cardio workout to get you started. When you’re ready to move for longer, you can clear the living room and put on a guided workout video – celebrity fitness guru Joe Wicks has HIIT training workouts on YouTube that are guaranteed to make you sweat.
There are other ways to get going at home. Grab an old skipping rope or put on some music and dance! Getting your groove on for 15 minutes not only works your heart, it will put a smile on your face.
Exercise on your doorstep
Walking is also a great way to get active. Getting out in the evening with friends or neighbours and pounding the pavement for 30 minutes can make a huge difference to your health and wellbeing.
Wherever you are, you can also meet runners at a parkrun near you. You can take the weekly 5k run at your own pace and it’s a fun and sociable event.
Building strength
Resistance exercises can help strengthen muscles and improve mobility. They are usually done on the spot, so don’t require too much space and can be easily done at home.
Some of these types of exercises require weights or resistance bands, but that shouldn't put you off. Just take a look in your cupboard and put your tins of baked beans or bags of rice to good use.
You can follow any of these 10 workout videos, as Team GB Olympians guide you through easy-to-follow workouts which you can do at home. You’ll start toning those legs, tums and arms in no time.
This 10 minute Women’s Health workout can also help to tone your whole entire body – all you need is a bench-like surface.
Mind and body
Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi are examples of flexibility exercises and it can be easy to incorporate them into a daily routine.
There are lots of yoga podcasts available with instructional videos, like Yoga with Adriene, that will increase your fitness and flexibility levels.
Yoga and Pilates are also great for your wellbeing. So, find your favourite space in the home, light some candles and get ready to find your inner peace.
