FOUR members of the Miller Homes North East team are hoping to change the lives of families in India as part of Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Trip.

The group, including the company’s regional managing director Patrick Arkle, will be laying the foundations for better lives by building Habitat Homes for the Irula Community in Puducherry.

Joining Patrick from the Miller Homes North East head office in North Shields will be sales manager Donna Brown, administration assistant Liz Moat, and personal assistant and office manager Emma Bartle, who is a team leader for Habitat for Humanity and will be making her third trip in support of the global charity.

Also taking part in the volunteering trip from 31 August to 09 September 2018 will be Patrick’s wife and daughter, Liz’s husband, and five representatives from some of Miller Homes’ contacts and consultants in the region.

The Global Village Trip is being entirely funded by the individuals and forms part of Habitat for Humanity Great Britain's New Hope Builders Campaign, which aims to give some of the poorest and most vulnerable families living in poverty housing across the world a safe, decent place to call home.

Volunteers will witness first-hand how a safe and secure home can improve many aspects of life for those in need by working with the families and communities which will benefit from the build.

In 2016, Miller Homes raised over £228,000 for the charity as a result of a year-long fundraising campaign including a Global Village Trip to Malawi. Emma Bartle was one of the North East team who headed to Africa to represent the region and has supported the charity ever since.

Emma, who is 37 and from Tynemouth, said: “My trip to Malawi was truly life changing, not just for the families who we built homes for, but for me personally. It gave me a completely different perspective and a real drive to help others, which I’ve continued to do with Habitat for Humanity.

“I’ve shared stories from my volunteering trips with colleagues and it’s amazing to see that these have inspired Patrick, Donna and Liz to join me in India. We are aiming to build two Habitat Homes in five days; an ambitious goal but I’m confident we’ll pull together to do it!”

Patrick Arkle, regional managing director at Miller Homes North East, added: “It is an honour to have the opportunity to be a part of this important project in India. Under Emma’s leadership we have a strong team, which I hope to bring many skills to having worked in the housebuilding industry my whole career. I’m looking forward to helping to make a difference and meeting the community which we will be supporting.”
