How to style your home with the hottest home accessories
It’s that time of year when homeowners across the nation cosy up, dig out the blankets and prepare for chilly days and nights as we head into winter.
It’s also the time of year when homeowners look at ways in which they can make their home seem more inviting, and a time when a few well-chosen accessories can transform a room or interior scheme quite amazingly!
Such home accessories can range from the relatively inexpensive to the rather pricey however, there is so much choice that some new bits and bobs to change up your environment can be found to suit every pocket and taste.
But what to choose and where to begin?
Here’s the top five ‘must-have’ home accessories that have graced our bedrooms and boxrooms, studies and snugs and living rooms and loos this year and are still right on trend.
Mine’s a drink from the home bar
The drinks trolley, or home bar, has been pretty big for a year or two now and is one trend that is showing no signs of diminishing. Indeed, as many more people have taken to fixing a tipple or two at home with the rather strange social scene that 2020 has put us in, the simple pleasure of mixing up your favourite drink after work (when you’ve perhaps only moved from one room in your home or popped down a flight of stairs) is one to behold. No matter what your taste, traditional, contemporary or bang on trend, there are some delightful trollies to choose from. Get one on wheels and you can really maximise its usefulness by moving it from room to room, and even into the garden.
A space to call the office
So, who would have guessed as the clock struck midnight and 2020 began, that so many of us would be hunting out rooms or spaces in our homes to call the office. Cue one of the biggest trends for 2020 – the desk, the chair, the files, the light – in fact anything that constitutes as a stylish work from home accessory. Interiors companies have supported the demand with some great space saving options, and created ways of styling an entire room or, just a space that is your new place of work.
You’ve got to pick a plant or two
Faux or real – depending on how green your fingers are – house plants are big business and are a great way of bringing a touch of nature into our homes. Many houseplants can bring health benefits in addition to aesthetic ones, so choosing wisely depending on where you’re going to pop your potted acquisition, can save you challenges down the line when its not thriving. Or, if you you’re better at faking it, there are a great range of faux house plants and flowers that look pretty much like the real thing.
Velvet, velvet and more velvet
You’ve just got to love a bit of velvet and this particular trend is perfect as the colder weather arrives. Summer time saw shades of champagne, blush pink and baby blue grace our homes – shift forward a few months, and these have been replaced by rich jewel like colours such as emerald and forest green, royal blues, russets, ochres and burgundy, all of which create a touch-feely, enveloping ambience to any room scheme. The trend is evident in everything from sofas and dining room chairs, to curtains and cushions, so there is plenty of scope for you to be able to incorporate a little luxe into your home this winter.
Pictures galore
We know you’ve all heard about the gallery wall and if you’ve not managed to pull one together what have you been doing?! Seriously though, this is one trend that just keeps giving, perhaps because of the delightfully flexible nature of it. Once you’ve mapped out the space prints, photos and pics can be easily changed and replaced, bringing in a new theme or colour with ease. It’s not all about creating the biggest wall in the world either – a simple collection of well chosen things that mean something to you can create a striking impact too.
Remember, that incorporating new accessories into your home has to be fun, has to be affordable and above all has to make you happy. Simple really!
