Sun, Sea, Sand And Scotland - The Best Of Our Bonnie Beaches
Home to some of the UK’s most beautiful coastlines, Scotland is a great option for a summer staycation. So, in celebration of this glorious weather that we hope continues throughout the next few months, we’ve compiled a list of our three favourite beaches North of the border, ideal for families to visit during the summer holidays.
Monifieth Beach, Tayside
With gorgeous views looking out over the Firth of Tay, Monifieth is a long, sandy beach packed with personality - and is within walking distance of our beautiful Ashludie Grange development. Perfect for relaxing summer strolls with the family, this sweeping shoreline east of Dundee is a short walk away from a children’s play area, a dedicated picnic site and a caravan park for holiday-makers.
During low tide, nature lovers can explore the previously submerged wooden groynes and rock pools found across the beach for a rare glimpse of sea critters close to home. The area is also one of Scotland’s best sites for bird watching, gaining plenty of interest thanks to the large population of rare water birds such as the Red-throated Diver and various seaducks that can be found there.
South Beach, Troon
One of West Scotland’s most popular coastal towns, Troon is a well known part of Ayrshire thanks to its stunning seaside views. When the weather gets warmer, people flock from all over Scotland to relax and sunbathe on the golden sands of the town’s southern beach.
Stretching south of the harbour, families on the beach can build sandcastles while admiring the beautiful scenery of the Isle of Arran in the distance. Kite flyers and windsurfers regularly catch the breeze during the July holidays and walkers can be found strolling along the wide esplanade. Close to our Doonholm Meadows development and easily accessible from Ayr, Alloway and Glasgow, Troon is a fantastic spot to spend the day this summer.
Seacliff Beach, East Lothian
A hidden gem at the mouth of the Firth of Forth, Seacliff Beach is hugely popular with local families from North Berwick, as well as Scottish surfers looking to catch some waves. A popular haunt for residents at Ferrygate Meadow, the shore offers a wide stretch of pristine, golden sand and breath-taking views.
There’s a sense of adventure about Seacliff as the sands are home to plenty of historic ruins. These include the abandoned 18th century Seacliff House and an amazing, tiny harbour, said to be the smallest in the United Kingdom. Beyond the harbour, the magnificent ruins of Tantallon Castle can be found perched on top of the cliffs, making Seacliff the perfect place to explore.
