A Guide To Botanical Decorating

A Guide To Botanical Decorating

When Pantone announced ‘Greenery’ as its colour for the year in 2017, the botanical trend rocketed to the top of the interior design scene and has been there to stay ever since. Very much a celebration of bringing the outdoors in, this nature-inspired theme is perfect for injecting a hint of vitality and serenity into any space.

We’ve put together an oh-so-simple decorating guide for recreating this refreshing décor in your own home:

Living Greenery

Plants serve as the very backbone of the botanical trend, whether you choose to use real or faux. Large potted plants such as figs and monstera will form the base, whilst smaller succulents can be added on top to create layers to the look. The more extravagant addition of hanging or draping greenery will add a touch of ethereal beauty to the scheme.

Planters

Once you have selected your plants for the scheme, choosing the right planters to coordinate with your desired theme is essential. If you are aiming for a bohemian feel then woven baskets are the perfect option. If you are leaning slightly more towards an industrial vibe then look to introduce cement and stoneware planters.

Botanical Prints

Take inspiration from the outdoors by decorating your home with a delicate mix of botanical-themed fabrics and artwork. Delicate florals and butterfly motifs will introduce a delicate springtime palette, whereas vegetable and insect patterns will bring more of a horticultural feeling to the home. From wall hangings to sofa upholstery, botanical prints can contribute a great deal to a scheme.

Rattan Furniture

One of the top pinned interiors trends of 2018 so far, rattan is enjoying something of a revival at the moment. One showstopping piece that has rocketed back into prominence is the Peacock Chair. Ranging from maximalist, to eclectic or boho interior schemes, this statement chair is truly the perfect place to be sat on a summer’s day, cocktail in hand.

Shades of Green

And last but not least, the crucial colour palette. Shades of green are the perfect way to introduce warmth into an otherwise neutral scheme but be careful to introduce these in the right measure. Keep the walls and floors neutral and add green tones through soft furnishings, such as bedding and cushions, and other accessories.

For the finishing touches, incorporate gallery walls full of botanical themed prints, and perhaps a butterfly dome on the console table as a statement accessory. Whatever the time of year, this trend is perfect for creating a sense of being at one with nature inside the walls of your own home.
