A Leicestershire couple, aged just 18 and 22, have credited sticking to a strict weekly budget and making use of buyer incentives with helping them to secure their first dream home.
Chloe Johnstone (18) and Callum Rey (22) fell in love with Stretton Glen development, in the pretty village of Great Glen, and decided to reserve a plot with Miller Homes as soon as one became available. They chose a three-bedroom Hawthorne-style property, which has a master en-suite and spacious living area.
With the average age of first time buyers now hitting 30, Chloe, a junior sales representative, and Callum, who is a painter and decorator, took drastic measures to save for their home. They limited their spending to just £50 a week while living with Chloe’s mum, and even cancelled a holiday together so they could put the money towards their deposit instead.
“Both of us get paid weekly so we put almost everything into our savings account,” explained Chloe.
“As well as this, we also used the Help to Buy scheme, which meant that we only needed a five per cent contribution towards the deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. If there are other young people looking to buy, I’d definitely recommend starting a savings account, and finding out about all the offers available.”
For first time buyers, the moving process can be daunting – but Chloe said that the team at Miller Homes worked hard to ensure it was as straightforward as possible:
“We felt so at ease throughout the whole journey, and every single staff member was really helpful. They were always on hand to answer any questions we had, and I can’t praise them enough.
“Now that we have moved into our new home, we are just overwhelmed with joy. When we purchased the plot, we hadn’t even viewed a Hawthorne so it was a big risk – but the best one we have ever taken.”
Alastair Parsons, sales director for Miller Homes Midlands said that he was delighted the couple had chosen Stretton Glen as the place to buy their first home:
“Miller Homes supports its customers at whatever stage of the moving process they are at. We have a number of packages available, including the popular Help to Buy and Part Exchange, and our experienced sales advisers can provide plenty of support along the way.”
“Stretton Glen is an extremely popular location, thanks to its peaceful surroundings and close proximity to Leicester. Those who are already living there are enjoying being part of this new neighbourhood, and looking forward to staying there for many years to come.
“Since launching the fourth phase of development, demand has been extremely high so if anyone is looking to buy here, I’d advise them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
