Embarking on a new topic is always an exciting time at school and children in Years 2 and 3 at Eastburn Primary School have been able to bring their current topics to life with a visit from industry professionals.
Howard Mee, Area Land and Planning Director and Mark Bray, Technical Manager from Miller Homes Yorkshire visited the children to answer their questions regarding housebuilding and provide a valuable insight into the industry and how it works.
“Education is so important and we were delighted to help the children at Eastburn School learn more about our industry and how we construct our homes,” said Howard Mee. “We hope that we have helped them understand the practicalities of housebuilding and look forward to welcoming them to our Eastburn development, Airedale Lea, very soon for the next phase of their studies.”
The children, who are between 6 and 8 years old, gleaned lots of information from Howard and Mark including land use, building methods, the use of natural and synthetic materials around the home and the comparison of practicality and appearance.
“The Miller Homes team have been very supportive and their visit to school provided the children with an opportunity to develop their learning.” commented Ruth McMeekin Year 3 teacher Eastburn Primary School. “We shall look forward to the possibility of a future site visit, where the children will be able to appreciate a further dimension to housebuilding. Who knows – we may inspire future careers as they see the enthusiasm the Miller team has for their roles.”
