Seven Site Managers from The Miller Group were recognised at the prestigious Construction Manager of the Year Awards [CMYA] which celebrate skills and expertise of the construction managers across the UK.
Organised by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and regarded at the ‘Oscars’ of the construction industry, the CMYA remain the only industry event to focus solely on the flair and professionalism of UK construction managers, concentrating on people as opposed to projects.
Ian Lively and Harry Dainton from Miller Homes and Louis Feakes, Garry Hanna, Jeff Hedley, Jim Rowley, and Duncan Nicol from Miller Construction, represented The Miller Group in a line-up of 92 finalist across 11 award categories who gathered at the event held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
During the event Jeff Hedley was announced as winner of the gold medal in the New Build & Refurbishment £26-40million category for Hartlepool College of Further Education and Harry Dainton was highly commended in the Housing & Accommodation above £10million category for Millers Green, Heysham.
The event was attended by more than 1,000 industry representatives and provided a unique opportunity for the cream of the industry to celebrate success and network with their peers.
Running for more than three decades, the awards are judged by industry leaders and celebrate career-defining achievements across projects of all sizes. The competition is open to site-based managers with overall responsibility for delivery of construction projects.
The seven Miller finalists were rigorously assessed by a judging team who spent six months visiting every shortlisted Manager on their sites across the country. Site visits were followed by interviews where candidates were required to give a detailed presentation on the project to a panel of judges.
Keith Miller CBE, Group Chief Executive, The Miller Group, said: “We are delighted to have had seven of our site managers shortlisted as finalist at these highly-respected industry awards. Being shortlisted demonstrates incredible skill and capability, and these site managers deserve to be very proud of what they have achieved. Although these awards celebrate the contribution of individuals, each finalist has acknowledged that their achievement has been greatly supported by strong teamwork on their projects including our supply chain, clients and supporting professional teams.”
Chris Blythe, Chief Executive, CIOB, said: “These awards have honoured the industry’s highest achievers for over thirty years. They reflect the importance and ability to skilfully handle partnerships through the truly multi-disciplinary management skills which the construction industry demands and attracts. To reach the final is a tremendous achievement.”
