Top Family Days Out in Northamptonshire

With February Half Term fast approaching, what better way to keep the kids entertained than with a family day out in Northamptonshire.

As everyone feels the effects of the cost-of-living crisis, most are still looking for ways to have fun with the family without breaking the bank.

At Miller Homes, we’ve pulled together our top 3 recommendations for family days out in Northamptonshire, home to our Norwood Quarter development. Whether it’s exploring the outdoors or escaping a wizard-themed room, there’s something for everyone.

Farm friends in Northampton

Spending time with animals has been shown to reduce anxiety levels, so why not take advantage of the unique experiences on the outskirts of Northampton that’ll encourage your children to get outdoors.

Those looking to spend time on a peaceful walk could visit Catanger Llama Trekking in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside. Here, you can take one of the gentle creatures on a walk along bridleways, farm tracks and country lanes and even take home a souvenir made from their very own llama fibre.

Budding bird enthusiasts can visit Icarus Falconry, located in the grounds of Holdenby House, which offers an array of experiences to get up close and personal with birds of prey. Visitors have the chance to watch hawks, eagles and vultures perform acrobatics and get photos with their new friend.

The great Northampton countryside

If spending time outdoors without an added animal guest is more your thing, there’s an array of parks, walks and gardens that can be visited around Northamptonshire.

Just outside of the city centre sits the famous Harlestone Firs forest walk. The towering trees cover 300 acres of land, all waiting to be explored. This idyllic location is situated just down the road from the childhood home of Princess Diana.

Castle Ashby Gardens and Evenley Wood Garden are ideal for plant enthusiasts who wish to enjoy both formal and wild gardens. Castle Ashby boasts 35 acres of luxuriant borders alongside a nature trail and butterfly gardens.

Evenly Wood Garden is full to the brim with a notable collection of plants, an 800m stream and a flood of snowdrops throughout the grounds.

Rainy days

With the English weather being notoriously unruly, we can’t always guarantee it’ll be a nice day to enjoy the outdoors. Thankfully, Northampton has an abundance of indoor activities to enjoy.

Budding climbers can spend the day scaling the walls at Pinnacle climbing centre while those more interested in subterranean environments, can discover fossils within the centre’s caves.

For rainy days, why not stay dry and visit Horton’s Emporium escape rooms. Families can work together to find clues, solve puzzles, and complete challenges to try and get out of the themed rooms in time, or risk getting locked in.

Families who love everything car related can visit the famous Silverstone racetrack, which is just south of Northampton. With an interactive museum, the opportunity to take to the track yourself and a simulator experience, there is something for everyone.

Whatever the weather or interest, Northamptonshire will have something the whole family can enjoy.
