Top tips on how to declutter your wardrobe for Autumn
There’s nothing more satisfying than a freshly organised wardrobe. It’s where we start our day so the state of your wardrobe can make or break a morning routine. Keeping this space tidy and free from clutter will ensure waking up and choosing an outfit is a breeze, and there’s no better time to get organised than Autumn. We’re all guilty of watching hours of shows like ‘Get Organised with The Home Edit’ and ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’ and then proceeding to neglect our own space, but we’ve put together some helpful tips that will make decluttering your wardrobe easy and, dare we say it, enjoyable!
Categorise
The first step to decluttering your wardrobe is to find out what you’ve got in there. Bringing everything out of the wardrobe and laying it on either your bed or the floor will allow you to see what you’ve got, and from there you can start to categorise. We recommend making ‘keep’ and ‘donate’ piles so you can rehome clothes than you no longer wear or no longer fit you. Once you’ve decided on the pieces you’re keeping, split them into seasonal categories (this applies to shoes and accessories too) and set your summer bundle aside for storage.
Store
Putting summer clothing into storage is a great way to overhaul your Autumn wardrobe and get it sorted for the colder seasons. Be honest, are you going to wear shorts over the next few months? If not, get some storage boxes and put these clothes away until next year. This will free up space for bulkier Autumn/Winter clothes and means you can easily rotate your wardrobe next Spring.
Come up with a system
Everyone’s wardrobe needs are different, so the trick is to come up with a system that suits you. For some, this might mean separating workwear from casualwear and giving each their own section in the wardrobe. For others, this might mean having a section for tops and a section for bottoms, and for others this might mean reserving the main part of the wardrobe for most-loved items so they’re easy to see and reach for on busy mornings. Find what works for you and don’t be afraid to switch things up to suit your lifestyle.
Make it look sleek
Once you’ve got a system in place, the final step is to make it look good. Matching hangers are a great way to upgrade your wardrobe instantly and will give it a sleek and polished look. A shoe rack on the floor allows you to organise shoes and keep them in pairs so they’re easy to find in the morning. Our other tips include using clear acrylic storage boxes to display jewellery and getting a hanging rack for belts, scarves and ties. Not only will these tips ensure your wardrobe is aesthetically pleasing, it’ll be practical for everyday use too.
