Our favourite warming autumn recipes to make at home

With autumn comes cosy evenings, colourful walks and home-made hearty cooking, and it’s the perfect time to experiment with trying out some new recipes.

 

Nothing beats a warm and delicious autumn meal, and with heaps of savoury and sweet dishes to try, there’s something to suit everyone!

 

From comforting soups and bakes to warming seasonal salads, here are some of our favourite new recipes to make at home... 

 

Butternut Squash Soup

Digging into a home-made soup is the true definition of autumn comfort, and this butternut squash with chilli and crème fraiche recipe from BBC Good Food will not disappoint.  

 

The recipe is classed as ‘easy’ and will serve four portions. It takes 15 minutes to prep and 50 minutes to cook, making it a simple yet delicious dish.

 

Slow Cooker Beef Ragu

This rich, flavoursome winter warmer is a recipe from Sainsbury’s. Filled with braising steak, pancetta and red wine, it’s the perfect autumnal combo.

 

Prep time is only 15 minutes and once the ingredients are in your slow cooker, that’s when the real magic happens. By letting the heat gently simmer the beef ragu for seven hours, the end result, served with a generous helping of pasta, will be well worth the wait.   

 

Sweet Potato and Cauliflower Salad

Adding warm, mixed vegetables to a fresh salad will turn this dish into a tasty, nutritious meal or side dish, with scope to make it as bespoke as you like!

 

This recipe from Country Living will take just under an hour and make eight servings. It’s simple and you can make it more personal by throwing in some of your favourite roasted vegetables or greens.

 

Spiced Cherry and Strawberry Pie

There’s nothing more warming or autumnal than a sweet berry pie, and this cherry and strawberry pie recipe from Delicious is an absolute must this season. It’s the ultimate family sharer too, making it the perfect pie to bake as the dark nights close in.

 

It’s a more complex recipe with 17 ingredients, so make sure you take your time and follow the method closely. The dessert’s results will be amazing, and could even become a new family favourite!

 

Vegan Sticky Toffee Pudding

Who doesn’t love a sticky toffee pudding? This warm, gooey recipe from Olive Magazine is indulgent and vegan friendly, and a go-to dessert for those cosy evenings in.

 

Total time including preparation, cooking and cooling takes around 1 hour 20 minutes, and the end result will serve eight portions. If you’re new to vegan baking, this is a great recipe to try as it’s not too difficult!
