On trend interiors to spruce up your home in 2021

There is nothing like a new year to make British homeowners cast a critical eye over their interior schemes, laid bare for all to see once all the Christmas trimmings have disappeared for another year!

And, as many of us still continue to spend more and more time in our homes, on average an extra eight hours a day, changing up interior schemes can make a bigger impact than ever

Add in the fact that 35% of Britons now class their home as their primary place of work, there is little wonder that we’re turning to interior design to give us something new to enjoy and make sure our home environment is a productive and pleasing one, giving equal opportunities for relaxing, working and studying.

Our interior design teams across the UK know a thing or two about creating stunning and on-trend show homes and they stay up to date with all the latest colour palettes and what’s going to be hot, or not, in the coming months.

This is what they tip to be the top three trends in 2021.

Fantastically multifunctional

One trend that seems set to stay for a while is the introduction and use of multifunctional items; furniture that can provide both stunning aesthetics and practical extra storage. Items like storage ottomans can easily create an elegant look within your room, but also provide a helpful amount of extra storage. Tables that have detachable tray tops, drinks trolleys that can be moved from room to room, and eye-catching shelving systems for storage and display all add a depth of warmth and home comfort to a room. And, if you are still integrating a work-from-home space into a room, small desks that double as display areas when not in use can work exceptionally well.

Opulent grandeur

Opulent grandeur picks up where bold colours left off, leaning towards a look of unique feature lighting and accent statement pieces.

Set to accentuate and highlight the opulent grandeur theme is a palette of bold colours, such as rich blues, dark greens, and other jewel like shades. Dark hues of these colours can allow for a restful, yet elegant, scheme within a room, creating a healthy environment for both work and home life and focusing the eye on the welcoming nature of the room.

Many will perfectly complement the Dulux Colour of the Year too which has been named as ‘Brave Ground’.

Velvet continues to be a key fabric running through this style, and can be achieved in in relatively inexpensive ways with the addition of cushions, blankets, throws and statement chairs or footstools.

Nature and nurture

The nature and nurture trend continues with the use of plants and bringing the outside in, in fact plants are set to be an even bigger trend in 2021 than we had seen previously. They can act as perfect accents in a room and create a modern and chic look, perfectly adding the finishing touches to your space. They are incredibly flexible in size and shape and can therefore meet all measurement requirements for their intended home. As well as being an easy find, plants not only improve the air quality to give you a physical benefit, they also create a sense of relaxation throughout a space, perfect for home workers. Indeed, you could read another of our blogs about how to achieve House Plant Heaven. However, not to worry if your fingers are not renowned for being green, artificial flowers and plants are just as readily available and will achieve this look just as well.

So, whether you are a fan of opulent grandeur, or prefer to be more in touch with nature, 2021 has it all covered for your home interiors.

And, as we expect that spending increased amounts of time in our homes will continue well into 2021, there has never been a better time to upgrade your greatest investment and make it a place where you can truly relax, work, play and hopefully soon, welcome guests once again.
