Top Home Decor Trends Of 2019

Now that the start of the year lull is finally over, it’s time to spruce up your home for Spring and we’ve turned to the Pinterest 100 list to get this year’s top home décor trends. The list is published annually and forecasts emerging trends, giving an insight into what’s going to be hot in 2019.

So, whether you're looking to decorate a new home with touches of yellow or add some stylish accents with eye-catching succulents, here are five design trends that are bound to be big this year.

Rebel yellow

There’s a retro revival and 70s colour palettes are in. Sunny yellow tones are trending and Pinterest has revealed that searches for ‘mustard yellow’ are up by 45% and growing.

Mustard yellow serves as the perfect backdrop to a room and complements both neutral and vibrant shades. But if you’re not quite ready to commit to painting your walls yellow, the golden tone is the perfect addition to everyday neutrals like whites, tans and greys. For a more striking look, you can pair this warm hue with richer tones like emerald green or deep shades of blue.

Break the rules

It’s no surprise to see geometric shapes on this list and in 2019 the trend is branching out from rugs and furniture to statement walls, with the search for ‘geometric paint’ up by a staggering 225% on Pinterest.

Geometric paint in vibrant colours can transform walls into an eye-catching, mesmerising focal point. One of the great things about this look is that you can break design rules and combine several of your favourite shades in the same space without it feeling like you’ve gone wild with lots of colour. Our top tip is to use three colours: a neutral background and two bolder shades for the colour blocks.

Going green

A vertical garden is a collection of wall-mounted plants that can breathe life into both compact homes and balconies. They’re a genius use of space and the trend for lush and leafy living walls is continuing to grow.

Choose low-maintenance plants that enjoy the high life such as ferns and grasses, and keep herbs in the kitchen. Dobbies Garden Centres has launched its own stack-able wall-mounted planters designed for real greenery and indoor herb gardens. These new, clever versatile planters add instant interest and a pop of colour – not to mention a lovely, fresh scent.

Swish fringing

Fringing is another retro look that’s back with a bang. Fabulous tassel designs swayed their way down the fashion catwalks and the embellished look is proving popular with interiors as Pinterest searches for ‘textile art’ soared by 1718%.

Tasselled cushions, curtains, mirrors and lamps are the perfect addition to any room and add a fun edge to home interiors. One of our favourite ways to incorporate this trend into your home is with fringed wall hangings.

Wacky wallpaper

Wallpaper is back and it’s bolder than ever. Pinterest reports that searches for “bold print wallpaper” are higher than ever - so it’s time to prep the walls for some wow factor.

Following on from the botanical trend last year, prints inspired by nature are set to be big again in 2019. Modern leafy prints that are more trendy than tacky are in, and the tropical look continues to evolve. This year we’re seeing a sophisticated take on the theme, with pops of berry, turquoise and parakeet green with flashes of metallic against brooding, dark backdrops.
