Top Five Home Decor Trends Of 2018 According To Pinterest

Pinterest has become the go-to place for inspiration in all things décor. According to the site, "home" continues to grow as an interest, with the number of pins increasing year-on-year by more than 75 percent.

Now that the January lull is finally over, it’s time to spruce up your home and we’ve turned to the Pinterest 100 list to get this year’s top home décor trends. The list is published annually and forecasts emerging trends, giving an insight into what’s going to be big in 2018.

So, whether you're looking to decorate a new home with a statement front door or add some stylish accents with patterned plants, here are five design trends that are bound to be big this year.

Resort inspired décor

For many of us, the best part of a holiday is staying in a decadent hotel room or resort. The designs and accessories, usually associated with spas and hotels are now heading into homes. And whilst outdoor bathrooms or freestanding kitchens may be hard to replicate, there are lots of practical items you can add to your home to give it that resort touch.

Bring the jungle to your home with deep green furniture, accessories and palm-like plants. Textured fabrics like velvet evoke a tropical feel and leafy prints create a welcome escape from everyday life.

Metallics

Metal is branching out from basic utensils to become a stylish element of home decor. The addition of luxe metallic touches is not new, but the big difference this year is the choice of metallic finish – think less copper and rose gold, more brass! Statement brass furniture, mirrors and accessories all help to add a luxurious finish to any room and you can enhance the tones with soft pink and emerald green.

The humble pineapple is back on top as the trendy motif to adorn your home for this spring/summer.

Terazzo

Often seen in Italian palaces, terrazzo flooring is made by setting chips of stone, marble, quartz or glass into a binder like cement. This 70’s flooring trend is working on a comeback via wallpaper prints, countertop motifs or in little touches on accessories.

To add a touch of terrazzo to your home without making a major investment or a permanent change to walls or floors, look into accessories like subtle terrazzo knobs, cushions or terrazzo trays and coffee tables.

Statement doors

Home decor starts at the front door so why not give your guests a bright and cheery welcome with a door that isn’t a neutral tone. Make your home Instagram worthy and paint it a bright colour for 2018 making the best possible first impression on your guests.

Patterned Plants

The year's trendiest plants are vibrant and have geometric motifs and touches of colour.

Studies have shown that seeing green has restorative effects on our mental energy. So, if the cold weather is leaving you struggling to concentrate or feeling stressed - consider stocking up on some of these pattered additions to help lift your mood and your environment.
