Our Tips For Getting Your Home Autumn Ready

With autumn well underway and a distinctive chill in the air, you’re likely to be wondering how you can make your home cosier and more seasonal.

Whether you’re looking to do a complete make-over, or simply incorporate some new accessories or small autumnal touch-ups, there’s lots of options.

We’re sure you’ll have seen many people on social media cosying up with the number one best seller The Little Book of Hygge – which is a fascinating Danish way of living — that promises happiness and ties in a lot of our tips on how to create the perfect autumn interior…

Colour trends

A lick of paint can make such a difference to a room. On trend colours for the new season include rustic oranges, mustard yellows and deep reds, all reflecting the change in colour of leaves. Grey is also a big colour trend this autumn, especially when thinking about accessories.

Candles are an affordable accessory and a great way to add a sense of autumnal lighting and fragrance to your home. Seasonal scents include deep woody tones, ginger, pumpkin spice and winter berries – they also work well to add splashes of colour to a room.

As autumn brings a cooler temperature, add a cosy rug to your living room or master bedroom for a little extra warmth between the toes!

Throws and cushions

It’s no surprise that we spend more time at home during the colder months, so sit back, relax and enjoy it. Add a throw onto your sofa, bringing autumnal colours to your living room without making any drastic changes or investments – it’s also handy to reach for to snuggle up to during a quiet night in front of the TV. Cushions are another easy way to add a pop of colour or texture.

Dining table display

As we spend more time at home during autumn, it’s the perfect time to entertain friends and family with dinner parties and movie nights. To bring a seasonal flair to your dining table we suggest a centrepiece – pumpkins are a fun and cost-effective option around Halloween time.

Fresh flowers and plants

Selecting the right flowers and plants to mirror the season is an easy way to update your home. Flowers currently in season include roses, chrysanthemums, lilies and orchids. Head to your local florist to gather fresh flowers and make your own arrangements, or if plants are your preference, your local garden centre will be able to offer advice on the best options.
