Make The Most Of Summer With Our Staycation Ideas

If you’ve just moved into your new home, you might be watching your pennies and looking to holiday nearby this summer.

With a rising trend in staycation breaks and more and more family-friendly festivals popping up around the UK, there’s so much choice when it comes to holidaying in Blighty.

To help you decide where to visit, we’ve created a guide to some of our favourites as there really has never been a better time to explore what’s on your doorstep – happy holidays!

Family-friendly festivals:

Deer Shed Festival, North Yorkshire

With arts, music and a science-twist, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning your day at this quirky family festival from 22 – 24 July 2016. Headline artists include Richard Hawley, Everything Everything and Beth Orton. Aspiring scientists can also enjoy the festival’s range of hands on activities including fun ways to learn more about horticulture, forensics and archaeology.

Enjoy the full festival experience as camping is available, as well as campervan, caravan and trailer pitches.

Tartan Heart Festival, Scotland

From 04 - 06 August 2016, this popular festival will return to Inverness featuring headline acts Madness, Two Door Cinema Club, The Darkness, Circa Waves and Super Furry Animals. With a family-friendly atmosphere and so much on offer as well as great music, including theatre, arts and crafts workshops and fun fancy dress, there’s lots to do to keep even younger festival-goers happy.

Whether you enjoy pitching a tent and sleeping under the stars or having the home comforts which come with travelling in a campervan, both options are catered for at Tartan Heart Festival.

Camp Bestival, Dorset

From 28 - 31 July 2016, Lulworth Castle is home to this exciting festival with a packed line up of music, performances and comedy, with headline acts including Fatboy Slim, Katy B, Jess Glynne and Tears for Fears. Kids are king at Camp Bestival as there’s heaps of activities for all ages, including BigTopMania where little ones can learn a circus skill, bouncy castles, face painting and more.

Accommodation options vary, offering everything from standard camping to backstage VIP camping, as well as a pitch village with pre-pitched tents, allowing you to simply turn up and enjoy the fun.

V Festival, Chelmsford

It wouldn’t be summer without the return of V Festival which is back from 20 – 21 August 2016. With headline acts including chart toppers Justin Bieber, Rhianna, David Guetta and Little Mix, there are artists for all ages and music tastes.

As well as standard camping, there is the festival’s V Style luxury camping, with tipi tents, yurts and more.

Festival of Thrift, Redcar

Welcoming over 45,000 visitors in 2015, Festival of Thrift is setting up its stalls in Kirkleatham from 17 – 18 September 2016, with festival fun for all of the family including performances, demonstrations, craft workshops, talks, craft stalls and food and drink stalls.

Camping is not available at the daytime festival, which opens its doors from 10am to 5pm, so retreat back to the nearby Park Farm Campsite in Whitby and make a weekend of it.
