Sports Clubs Score Hat-trick with Miller Homes

Sports Clubs Score Hat-trick with Miller Homes
After yet another fantastic summer of sport with the World Cup in Brazil, Glasgow hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, our 3rd Summer of Sport competition has now crossed the finish line!

With more than 80 clubs and teams across our regions taking park in the chance to win a £500 prize, our selection of judges, including Scottish athlete Jared Deacon and swimming double Commonwealth champion Chris Cook, were given the challenge of picking the team for the gold medal spot. In order to win the cash, the clubs had to state in no more than 200 words why they deserved to win the money, how they would benefit and what it would be spent on.

After much deliberation the 6 winners chosen were:

• Perth and Kinross District Netball in Perth (Scotland region)
• Greencroft Netball Club in County Durham (North East region)
• Leyland Lions Junior Racket Club in Preston (North West region)
• Doncaster Wheelers Cycling Club in Doncaster (Yorkshire region)
• Trowell Football Club in Nottingham (Midlands region)
• Worthing Gymnastics Club in Worthing (Southern region)

Anthony Beaumont, club chairman and Disability and Soccer School co-ordinator of Trowell Football Club, said the money would make a huge difference:

“It’s great news for us. It’s a real battle to maintain the kits and equipment whilst keeping fees to a minimum and this grant from Miller Homes will help no end.”

Martin Maltby, Doncaster Wheelers club member, commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to try and secure some much needed funds from such a reputable company who had already helped other clubs like us.

"We are thrilled to have received this prize and the entire club passes on our thanks to Miller Homes and the Doncaster Knights for choosing us,”

Gillian Conway, Under 17 District Coach for Perth and Kinross District Netball Club, said: “We are delighted to have won. Our coaches are very keen to develop the squad and netball within the Perth and Kinross Area. This funding will be spent on new equipment which will improve agility, balance, co-ordination and speed of our athletes, and better prepare them for National Squad trials.”

With so many entries we were delighted to see that the enthusiasm for sports hasn’t dwindled. All entries were of an exceptionally high standard and as with years previous our judges had a difficult job on their hands!  In the end it was decided that the winning clubs would be able to make the most out of our donation.
