Location, Location, Location - Bingham

As part of our new blog series focusing on some of the most sought after postcodes in the UK, we’re heading to the Midlands to find out more about the market town of Bingham in Nottinghamshire.

Not only is Bingham home to our Dukesmead development, but it was also recently named as the best place in England and Wales to bring up a family.

The results of the Hotspots Report by Family Investments examined a number of factors, including the quality of schools, childcare provision and crime levels. We are, of course, delighted to see that the affordability of housing in the area played a part too.

Around 9,000 people have already decided that the town is the perfect place to set up home, but what exactly are the key elements that have combined to make Bingham number one out of almost 2,500 other postcode areas?

Well, it seems the schools are certainly something to shout about. According to the report, Key Stage 2 results in Bingham far exceed the national average. GCSE results in the area are pretty impressive too, with Toot Hill School in Bingham achieving a 100% A*-C pass rate.

Taking all of the secondary schools into account, there’s a A*-C pass rate of 77% in Bingham. When you compare that to the national average of 43%, it’s easy to see why the schools are proving to be such a big draw.

Bingham bucks another national trend when it comes to shopping as well. You’ll struggle to find an empty shop unit in the town, with just a 2% vacancy rate, compared to 16% nationally. That means that there’s plenty of choice when it comes to a spot of retail therapy, from independent stores and well-known high street names, to the hustle and bustle of the weekly Thursday market – a tradition dating back to the year 1314.

For those wishing to venture further afield to spend their money, there are also excellent transport links to nearby Nottingham, with Leicester and historic Lincoln just a short distance away as an alternative.
If shopping isn’t quite your thing, then Bingham also offers a range of other leisure activities.

The local leisure centre is home to swimming and teaching pools, a gym, fitness and therapy suites, sports halls and floodlit outdoor facilities. It is also the meeting point for a range of clubs, including archery, athletics and badminton. In fact, there are so many, it would be like a mini-workout to write the whole list!

For a more sedate way of life, Bingham is situated on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir, meaning there’s lots of stunning countryside to explore. Outdoor attractions like Ferry Country Park complete with wildlife park and farm, will provide a fun day out for all the family.

If the thought of all of that leaves you a little worn out, nearby Eden Hall Day Spa offers a luxury option. With so much to do in Bingham, you can’t blame residents for wanting to treat themselves to a little extra relaxation and pampering!
