Celebrating our Safety, Health and Environment Champions

We are in the business of building high quality homes and with that construction element of our work in mind, we place great emphasis on the safety, health and environment of all our employees.

On all our sites across the UK, we have employees making a real commitment to driving these standards upwards.  That’s why this year we decided to hold our first ever Safety, Health & Environment Awards in recognition of those efforts and to encourage everyone to take a proactive approach to making the workplace a safer and healthier working environment.

All our development-based employees were eligible to be involved in the awards and were assessed on specific criterion over a 12 month period.  This involved compliance with relevant Miller Homes standards; safety, health and environment site inspection reports; and completion of corrective actions with a specific timescale as well as the implementation of any initiative or action which has made a significant, positive impact.

We were extremely impressed with the efforts made by our employees to continually raise safety, health and environment standards and awards were presented in three categories - Best in Region, Best in Area and Best in Company - with David Mathie, site manager at our Dalmore Mill development in Penicuik, taking the top title.

David impressed the judges with his organisational skills and forward thinking to effectively manage a very complex and challenging site.

David Bird, site manager for Aspect in High Wycombe, and Paul Young, site manager for Cleminson Halls in Cottingham, also received Best in Area awards and other regional winners were John Kearns, Highfield Manor in East Kilbride; Richard Goacher, Dukesmead in Bingham; Lee Howard, Mariner’s Way in Seaham, Mark Atherton, Cartrefle in Wrexham; and Keir Jones, Limekiln View in Telford.

Well done to all involved in the awards this year, especially our winners, and we look forward to continually raising our standards in 2013 and beyond.
