Miller Homes has been on the trophy trail again, this time taking the title for “Best Performing Business” (over 250 employees) at the ninth Edinburgh Evening News Business Excellence Awards.

The proud team collected their gong before a packed audience at Edinburgh’s Mansfield Traquair Church – known locally as the city’s very own ‘Sistine Chapel’.

They beat off stiff competition from the Balmoral Hotel, Menzies Distribution and Sykes to take the title and - as a regional finalist - Miller Homes will now go on to contest the Scottish Enterprise National Business Awards final in Glasgow in June.

Evening News Editor, John McLellan, said; “In a competitive world, it is only right that there are competitions like this to encourage all businesses to strive to be the best and not to be afraid of the spotlight of comparison.”

He added that all companies in the running for a top spot had been judged on a variety of attributes including leadership, employee skill levels, financial management, customer satisfaction and supplier relationships.

With all this to consider – it is not too surprising that Miller Homes walked off with a winning place.

In the last twelve months alone, the company bought rival housebuilder Fairclough Homes in a £264million acquisition and is now the UK’s largest privately owned-house builder - and the eighth biggest new homes developer in the whole country by volume.

Last year, Miller Homes also became the first British housebuilder to publish its customer satisfaction scores. It now boasts best friend referral rates of around 90%, it has a multi-award winning website and it officially employs the best site manager in the country (for large volume housebuilders) – according to the housebuilding industry body, the NHBC.

Miller Homes’ marketing director, Philip Hogg, said; “We are thrilled to get this sort of third-party endorsement. 2005 was a great year for Miller Homes and 2006 has got off to flying start.

“This award proves to us, our customers and our staff, that we are a dynamic business that is truly making its mark on Scotland – and the UK as a whole.”
