NE case study

A young couple have kick started 2016 in their dream new home at Miller Homes’ Wheatfields development after taking advantage of the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme.

Leigh Davison, 27, and Yiannis Metallinos, 26, had dreams of finding their first home together with enough room to entertain family and friends. They were also looking to celebrate their first Christmas in their new home with the new addition to their family - French Bulldog Louis.

After living together at Leigh’s parents’ home in Gosforth for 14 months, the couple were delighted to secure a spacious five-bedroom Buttermere housetype at the leading housebuilder’s Wheatfields development in Seaton Delaval using the Help to Buy scheme.

A Help to Buy Equity Loan offers assistance for buyers who only have a deposit of 5% through the provision of a 20% equity loan from the Government for those who meet the qualifying criteria, meaning buyers only need to secure a 75% mortgage from a provider.

Flanked by open farmland and mature trees, just a few miles from the Northumberland coastline, Leigh and Yiannis knew the development would be the perfect location for their first home together.

Sales accountant, Leigh, said: “We chose Wheatfields as Yiannis was keen to live near to the coast, whilst I wanted something more rural yet still close enough to the buzz of the city, and Wheatfields definitely offered the luxury of all these things.

“We were so surprised at the openness of the development and how spacious the homes felt and looked. I love overlooking the fields and the space we have around our new home which will be perfect for walking Louis.

“When enquiring at the development we spoke to Katherine Hope, Miller Homes’ sales adviser at Wheatfields, who was very helpful and she talked us through the different options available to us, including the Help to Buy scheme.

“After giving it some thought we decided to reserve the five-bedroom Buttermere. The feature we loved most about this home was the spacious kitchen, which has made a great entertaining space.

“Throughout our entire home buying journey, Katherine and Wheatfields’ site manager Paul Ritchie were so helpful and genuinely excited at the prospect of us moving into our first home. They really did make it a pleasurable experience for us. We’d certainly recommend Miller Homes to other people. My parents are looking to downsize and are now considering a new Miller home after seeing the excellent customer service which we have received.”

Andrew Somerville, regional sales manager at Miller Homes, added: “Leigh and Yiannis were keen to find a home near the coast that was still within a semi-rural location where they could start their lives together. Located on the edge of Seaton Delaval village and just a short drive from the stunning Northumberland coastline, our Wheatfields development offered the couple exactly what they were looking for.

“As first-time buyers, Leigh and Yiannis were not only looking for the financial benefits of being homeowners, they also wanted the added peace of mind that a new build home offers, including a 10-year industry guarantee offered by the National House Building Council, the two-year customer care service which comes with every Miller home and improved energy efficiency.

“We are delighted to have been able to help Leigh and Yiannis through their home buying experience which has allowed them to take their first step onto the property ladder and secure a brand new home they can call their own.”

Built to the highest standards, Wheatfields currently offers buyers a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes, as well as one and two bedroom apartments, priced from £63,960.
