Millers Gate Dating back to the thirteenth century, the community of Quedgeley has grown from a rural village into a popular residential area on the southern edge of Gloucester without losing its welcoming sense of local pride and identity. The spacious and attractively landscaped Millers Gate neighbourhood, part of the exciting Quedgeley Urban Village project, brings attractive contemporary homes into this enormously desirable setting.
Kingsway Urban Village Millers Gate is part of Kingsway, an innovative residential neighbourhood with the charming 16th century Manor Farm at its heart. Created by a consortium of leading developers to combine stylish modern living with environmental sensitivity and a natural sense of community, Kingsway is surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the River Severn.
Sport and leisure Kingsway Village has been designed with lots of open spaces and play areas including football pitches, tennis courts and a cricket ground with a pavilion, and the Beaufort Leisure Centre in Tuffley provides a swimming pool, gym, aerobics studio and squash courts. There is a second nearby gym at Bodyflex and further amenities at Quedgeley Health and Fitness Club, based at Severn Vale Technology College and open to the public in the evenings and at weekends.
Social life and entertainment Kingsway Local Centre will feature a community centre, a pub and a restaurant, complementing the Village’s schools and sports facilities to foster a genuine sense of neighbourhood. Quedgeley also has a Community Centre and a Village Hall, hosting an enormous diversity of activities and clubs ranging from playgroups to modern dance. There is a traditional inn called The Bumble Bee within a few minutes walk of the development, and the historic City Centre of Gloucester, with its theatre, cinemas and excellent choice of bars and restaurants, is in easy reach.
Health care Plans for Kingsway include a modern health centre providing GP and dental services. There are currently two medical practices within easy reach of Millers Gate and a large dental practice at St James.
Education The first of Kingsway’s two primary schools is due to open in Autumn 2008. A light, airy building with attractive courtyards, it is set amongst playing fields and specially created habitats for the study of natural history. Quedgeley has nursery provision as well as infant and junior schools, and the Beaufort Community School, a mixed comprehensive with Technology College status, occupies a spacious campus around a mile away with views over the Severn Vale and the Cotswolds.
Shopping Kingsway Local Centre will include a Sainsbury’s supermarket and a range of smaller shops. There is Tesco supermarket in Quedgeley, and a convenience store, a butcher and a post office in Tuffley. Gloucester has a traditional market town ambience, with picturesque pedestrianised streets and covered shopping centres, and there is a market selling local produce in the city centre.
Transport Pedestrian walkways, cycle paths and efficient public transport is an integral part of the Kingsway vision. There is a bus service connecting the Village with Stroud and Gloucester, and a good Park and Ride service is in operation. Millers Gate is approximately a mile from junction 12 of the M5, giving exceptional access to the motorway network, and the new Gloucester South West Bypass will provide even faster transit into the city centre. Gloucester train station, around four miles away, offers regular services to Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. Bristol Airport is less than 40 miles from Kingsway.
Outdoor amenities Manor Farm is a fascinating Grade 2 listed building with a partially-filled moat and wonderful grounds, in which painstakingly restored features like the traditional orchard will bring a really special centrepiece to the Urban Village. There is also a local nature reserve nearby in Quedgeley, and the 250-acre Robinswood Hill on the southern edge of Gloucester offers magnificent views, fascinating nature and geology trails, and a rare breeds farm. |
