Balbirnie Meadow
Midway between Edinburgh and Dundee, and just a few minutes by road or rail from Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes is an excellent commuter base as well as a vibrant and prosperous town in its own right. Balbirnie Meadow is a small, spacious development on the eastern edge of the town, virtually adjacent to the delightful Balbirnie Park and exceptionally convenient for both the A92 and the train station.
Outdoor activities
Just a few minutes walk from Balbirnie Country Park, with its spectacular rhododendrons and craft centre, Balbirnie Meadow has excellent access to parks and green spaces, such as Riverside Park with its pleasant walks along the River Leven. For more adventurous rambling, the town is on the edge of the Lomond Hills Regional Park in which the extensive facilities for hillwalking are complemented by meadows, reservoirs and the picturesque and historic Loch Leven. The Park is used for a wide range of recreational activities including watersports, fishing and horse riding.
Leisure and sport
The prestigious Balbirnie House Hotel, housed in a Georgian mansion just a few minutes walk to the north of Balbirnie Meadow, includes excellent leisure and dining facilities under the guidance of its Michelin-starred Head Chef, and the Hotel’s premier new spa development is due to open soon. Alongside the hotel, Balbirnie Park Golf Club’s 18-hole wooded parkland golf course is used by the Scottish PGA for professional tournaments, and the world-renowned courses at St Andrews are just around half an hour’s drive away. There are nearby fitness facilities at Balbirnie Gym, and the Lomond Centre around a mile and a half from the development includes badminton and basketball courts and football pitches. On the southern of the town, around two miles away, the Fife Institute includes a 25m swimming pool, teaching pool, games hall, sports pitches, floodlit track and a fitness suite.
Entertainment
The Rothes Halls complex in the centre of town is a major venue for live touring shows including internationally acclaimed music, comedy and dance performances. It also hosts drama and exhibitions, and is the venue for the town’s annual beer festival. There is also a nightclub, a bowling alley and a good choice of bars and restaurants in the town. The short trip into Dundee or Edinburgh brings an immense choice of theatres, cinemas, clubs, galleries and other attractions into reach.
Shopping
There is a nearby supermarket in Flemington Road, a choice of convenience shops and food stores around half a mile away at the Cadham Centre, and Markinch Post Office is just minutes from Balbirnie Meadow. The town’s principal shopping area, the popular Kingdom Centre, is a covered mall with over 100 retailers including high street names, cafés and a bar. Glenrothes also has a retail park at the Saltire Centre, incorporating a range of larger stores.
Transport
Balbirnie Meadow is around a mile from the A92, offering fast road links to Dundee, around 26 miles to the north, and Edinburgh, which is approximately 35 miles south. Markinch Train Station, just minutes from the development, is on the main Edinburgh to Aberdeen line, and there are additional Fife Circle services from Glenrothes with Thornton station to Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline. With Rosyth Ferry terminal 17 miles away, easy access to Edinburgh Airport, and several flights a day from Dundee Airport to London, Balbirnie Meadow is an exceptionally convenient base.
Education
There is a choice of Primary Schools within a short walk of Balbirnie Meadow, and two high schools less than two miles away.
Health care
The health centre in Markinch High Street houses four GP practices and ancillary staff in a modern purpose-built centre, and there are also dental surgeries and a pharmacy within walking distance. |
