Outdoor activities The development is close to the 190-acre Cassiobury Park, which extends westwards to incorporate the Grand Union Canal and the meandering River Gade. In addition to the delightful formal gardens, open meadows and beautiful, atmospheric woodlands, the Park incorporates paddling-pools and play areas, football and cricket pitches, bowling and croquet lawns, tennis-courts and a basketball court, with many of the facilities situated just a few minutes' walk from Miller@Cassiobury. The Park also has several important wildlife habitats. Other outdoor amenities in the area include Rickmansworth Aquadrome, where in addition to picturesque woodland and lakeside walks and a bird sanctuary, there are clubs dedicated to angling, sailing, windsurfing and canoeing.
Health care There are two large medical centres and several dental surgeries within a mile radius of Miller@Cassiobury. Both of the medical centres offer a wide choice of GPs and have ancillary nursing staff. Watford General Hospital, less than a mile from the development, has a full A&E department.
Transport Despite the tranquillity of its surroundings, this is a superlative base for travel, both into central London and out into the countryside. There are excellent links to both the M25 and the M1 motorways, each around two-and-a-half miles from the homes, and Watford Underground Station, just 16 stops from the City on the Metropolitan line, is literally adjacent to the development. Watford Junction train station is within a mile, allowing Euston station to be reached in around 20 minutes by rail, and there are local bus services running along Cassiobury Park Avenue. Both Heathrow and Luton Airports are within around 45 minutes' drive.
Education Cassiobury is served by excellent schools and nurseries. The choice of primary schools within walking distance offer performance well in excess of the national average, reflecting the high standards within Hertfordshire LEA, and the two Watford Grammar Schools both have prestigious reputations – the boys' school was identified by Ofsted as ‘particularly successful'. The boys' school is within a quarter of a mile and the girls' school around a mile away.
Sport and leisure The valley on the western edge of Cassiobury Park rises into West Herts Golf Club, one of the most established clubs in Hertfordshire, where the challenging woodland course is complemented by superb social amenities, including an exceptionally fine restaurant. Both Watford Central Baths and Woodside Leisure Centre, around half a mile away, are undergoing a major redevelopment and are due to re-open soon with new leisure pools, separate swimming and learner pools, sports halls and fitness suites. There is also a BHS-approved riding school around two miles away at Bucks Meadow, which caters for children as young as four as well as providing advanced level tuition.
Shopping Miller@Cassiobury is well served by local shops, with a convenience store around half a mile away, and the diversity of Watford town centre, including the comprehensive and attractive Harlequin Centre, within two miles. The Harlequin is a major retail resource, with over 130 stores, including a host of high-street names, including John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, BHS and Next stores.
Entertainment Watford has a range of live venues providing a varied programme of events. Watford Palace Theatre, on the brink of celebrating its centenary, has recently been comprehensively refurbished and presents a varied programme, from local amateur drama to major touring shows. The much newer Colosseum, around half a mile from the development, has become Hertfordshire's premier multi-purpose venue, and its exceptional acoustics in the main auditorium makes it a favourite for classical recordings. On the northern edge of the town, the Woodside Leisure Park incorporates a Vue cinema, Hollywood Bowl and an amusement arcade. |
