The area’s historic attractions include the fascinating Gibside Chapel, a Palladian building with a fascinating three-tiered pulpit set in a landscaped forest, rich in wildlife, including kingfishers and red squirrels. A fine golf club with dining facilities is available at Garesfield, around two miles to the north of Derwent View. The fascinating and award-winning Beamish open-air museum is also in easy reach.
Shopping
There is a small selection of shops, including convenience stores, a chemist and a post office, in the adjacent village of Chopwell, around a mile north of the development, and a choice of high-street names and local speciality shops in Consett. The Metro Centre in Gateshead, one of Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centres, includes over 330 shops, many of them in themed areas, alongside a theme park, entertainment centre and over 50 restaurants.
Transport
Derwent View lies alongside the A694, giving fast access to the A1 and the whole of Greater Tyneside. Newcastle Airport is just 25 minutes’ drive away.
