Whittle-le-Park
The superb new Buckshaw Village development is one of the most exciting contemporary residential projects in the whole of the North West. With its wide use of sustainable building techniques and a social infrastructure that will include cycle-paths and public transport routes, and a village-like shopping centre, it combines excellent environmental credentials with enormous convenience. Buffered by trees and beautifully landscaped, Whittle-le-Park is a delightful new neighbourhood within this exceptional location.

Outdoor activities
Just a short drive from the attractions of the coast, which include the fascinating landscapes and ecology of the Ribble estuary, as well as the beaches of Southport, Whittle-le-Park offers a wealth of nearby parks and open-air amenities to explore. The 650-acre Cuerden Valley Park, a short walk north of the development, includes a wonderful mixture of woodlands, grassland, lakes and formal gardens abounding in wildlife, from dragonflies to roe deer, with facilities for fishing, horse-riding and cycling, as well as miles of relaxing walks.

Education
There is a choice of primary schools within a fifteen minute walk of Whittle-le-Park, and four secondary schools within two miles.

Shopping
There are good local shopping centres in Chorley and Leyland, with a choice of supermarkets and high-street stores as well as specialist and independent traders. The Botany Bay complex at Canal Mill, close to junction 8 of the M61 and less than two miles from the development, includes five floors of shopping, restaurants and a garden centre.

Entertainment
With both Chorley and Preston in easy reach for days and evenings out, there is a wide choice of live entertainment, cinema, restaurants and bars available. The Capitol Centre on the southern edge of Preston includes a Vue Cinema and a tenpin bowling and entertainment venue, and the more unusual attractions in the area include the Worden Arts and Crafts Centre, set in the delightful Worden Park in Leyland, which incorporates a theatre presenting a varied programme of live shows, and the Camelot Theme Park, open throughout the summer, with its exciting rides and working farm. The South Ribble Museum, housed in a 16th century grammar school, offers a vivid picture of the area’s past from Roman times.

Sport and leisure
There are a choice of gyms and fitness centres in easy reach, including the large, comprehensively equipped Leyland Leisure Centre, which includes a 25m swimming-pool, a separate children’s pool, squash courts, a Planet Pulse fitness suite, and a large multi-purpose sports hall which is often used as a venue for major events. There is a second gym at Body Logic, close to the Leisure Centre, and a children’s play centre at Zoom Zone, just a few minutes from Whittle-le-Park in the delightful setting of Cuerden Valley Park. The development also has an excellent selection of golf courses nearby. Leyland Golf Club, a little to the north, offers a distinctive parkland course with unusual water features, while to the east, the Shaw Hill Hotel Golf and Country Club incorporates both a championship course and excellent leisure and fitness facilities, including a swimming-pool.

Health care
There is a large medical centre at Whittle Surgery in Whittle-le-Woods, staffed by five GPs and offering a range of specialist clinics, and a smaller one – Euxton Medical Centre. There are also dental practices at Euxton and Whittle-le-Woods. All are within around a mile of the development. Buckshaw Village itself has a branch pharmacist, just a few minutes’ walk away.

Transport
Whittle-le-Park lies between the M6 and the M61, making it exceptionally convenient for travel throughout the North West and a good base for commuting to Manchester or Liverpool. The train station at Euxton, less than a mile-and-a-half from the development, operates direct services to Preston and Liverpool. Blackpool Airport is just 17 miles away, and Fleetwood Ferry terminal is less than half an hour’s drive from Buckshaw Village.
