Walking, fishing, climbing, cycling, golfing, horse riding. If it’s outdoors activities you’re into, Rothbury is the place to live.
This picturesque small town sits on the River Coquet, on the edge of Northumberland National Park. The town centre offers excellent schooling, library, great shops and plenty of good places to eat and drink.
Rothbury dates back to Roman times, however its present look is largely down to the famous industrialist Lord William Armstrong. He renovated much of the town in the 19th Century, and his home Cragside House is now a popular local attraction.
Set in 1,000 acres of beautiful pine-covered hillside, extensive gardens, lakes and tumbling streams, this mansion is a showcase of Victorian art, architecture and technology.
The beautiful and largely un-spoilt countryside around Rothbury is a walker’s paradise. The town also has an excellent golf course, with a new clubhouse now open. The River Coquet and nearby Fontburn Reservoir are both popular spots for bank, fly and worm fishing.
