Ashtree Park
Just a short walk from the lively centre of Sutton in Ashfield, with the M1 motorway around four-and-a-half miles to the west and the nearby town of Mansfield to the east, Ashtree Park brings a variety of contemporary homes of the highest quality into a delightful, tree-lined locale. Combining convenience with peaceful, residential surroundings, this superb development is set to become one of the most sought-after addresses in the area.

New in town?
One of the great things about moving to a new town is getting to know the place for yourself. Discovering the best places for shopping, finding a new favourite restaurant, digging out the coolest bars. All the things that help you connect with your new home town and make the most of your life here. So, to get you started, here’s our essential insiders’ guide to Sutton in Ashfield.

Local history
Sutton in Ashfield dates back at least to Saxon times. The ‘Sutton’ part of the name may be derived from ‘sweet town’. The ‘Ashfield’ part, more obviously, is based on the ash trees which have always grown abundantly in the area, and from which the Ashtree Park takes its name. The village appeared as ‘Sutone’ in the Domesday Book, and by the year 1700 it was home to 95 families – fewer than the number of new homes in the Ashtree Park development. The town grew prosperous through connections with the hosiery trade, which have lasted to the present day.

Health care
Sutton in Ashfield has a full range of medical services. The general practice and dental surgery noted below are convenient for the development, and there is a community hospital in neighbouring Kirkby in Ashfield, around a mile-and-a-half away.

Transport
Ashtree Park is approximately five miles from the M1, making it a convenient base for commuting to Sheffield and Nottingham and, via the A38, to Derby. The suburban rail station at Sutton Parkway, half-a-mile away, operates services to Mansfield, Worksop and Nottingham, from where the Intercity network can be accessed. East Midlands Airport is around 20 miles away.

Outdoor activities
Brierly Forest, on the northern edge of the town, is one of England’s newest country parks. The 250-acre site, which is part of the Greenwood Community Forest, includes woodlands, wildflower meadows, a wildlife pond and a visitor centre. Walkers have unrestricted access to all areas of the Park, and there are marked routes suitable for cyclists, horse-riders and people with disabilities. Within the ancient area of Sherwood Forest, the town is also in easy reach of the magnificent Sherwood Forest Country Park, with its ancient oaks and rich, diverse ecology, and Rufford Country Park, where the gardens and woodlands are a popular setting for regular special events.

Culture and entertainment
In addition to a good choice of traditional pubs, wine bars and restaurants, one of the town’s more unusual attractions is the Sherwood Observatory, situated a little to the east of the town on one of the highest points in the county, and around a mile from Ashtree Park. Operated by the local Astronomical Society, the Observatory holds regular open evenings and events, offering a fascinating opportunity to use its superb telescopes and ancillary equipment.

Shopping
There is a convenience store in Kirkby Folly Road, just yards from Ashtree Park, to cater for everyday needs. Sutton town centre offers a comprehensive choice of food and drink retailers, high-street names, supermarkets and specialist shops, many of them housed in the Idlewells Shopping Centre or Low Street. There is an open-air market held in the Market Place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The McArthur Glen Designer Outlet, with over 50 discount stores stocking top brands of clothing, accessories, sportswear and household goods, is only around five miles from the development.

Education
There is a choice of a nursery and primary schools within a mile of Ashtree Park, and the local comprehensive school is only around 20 minutes’ walk from the development.

Sport and leisure
The Mill Adventure Base, a few minutes’ walk from Ashtree Park, has grown over the past 20 years into one of the most exciting youth amenities in the region. With facilities for caving, climbing, sailing and canoeing, the Base takes advantage of the beautiful King’s Mill Reservoir to provide a programme of fully supervised activities. Sutton Leisure Centre, one of several gyms and fitness centres in the town, includes an ice-rink and there is a separate swimming-pool complex, with a fitness suite and sunbeds, in walking distance of the development. There is also an excellent golf course at Coxmoor Golf Club, less than a mile away. The heathland course, listed in the Top 100 courses by Golf Monthly, is complemented by fine bar and dining facilities.
